Resurrecting My Blog: A Journey in Security

While I was writing my blog posts back when I was looking for work last year, I was really enjoying blogging again. In a previous life I used to blog about personal stuff and my family, and I used my old nickname which was a childhood nickname. When I got into security and started meeting new friends at DefCon that let it be known they didn’t always play on the same side of the ethical or legal lines I thought we were supposed to play on, and I thought…..maybe I don’t want them knowing personal stuff about me. So I became 74rku5. If you know ELP, then you get an idea of what I was going for.

Anyway….In December of last year I found a job — Director of Information Security. And it was glorious. And it was hard work. It was a largely junior team that had been beaten up pretty hard. In 2023 they went through three Directors of Security. I was the fourth and was hired in December.

I’ll write more about this job because I have thoughts and have learned some things. I’m still trying to improve where I’m weak, and would appreciate some insight from those that can do things better than I can.

BUT — I’m back in the saddle again. I’m looking for work, so I have time. I’ve applied to 80 different positions since I was let go last Thursday. So far, hard ‘no’s from three of them. The rest….crickets.

I think it’s time to resurrect this blog right where I left off, and we’ll talk about security reporting up through Legal next. I did that three jobs ago, and it’s really interesting.

See you soon!
